Just wanted to introduce myself. I've been a type 1 diabetic since my early 20's (which sort of baffled the docs, especially when I pointed out I have an uncle who was diagnosed with Type 1 in his late fifties), and finally started on my first insulin pump on Monday.

I was poking around on YouTube, looking for videos to confirm how to do my site changes, and found Bill and his 10 Worst Diabetic Habits video. It made me laugh after what's so far been an up and down (and up and down and up) week. I look forward to all of the advantages of an insulin pump. Heck, giving myself a bolous while in line at Tim Horten's this morning is way easier than doing all that math before I can have my breakfast.

My new pump is sitting in my closet! I am waiting for my "pump teacher" to set up a training date in the next couple of weeks.

Hope you are finding the adjustment ok! I am very excited to start but a little nervous at the same time :) I have been on injections for over 20 years now so its really all I know.

Best of luck to you, I hope I can soon bolous in a Tim's line too ;)

Holly, I've been a type 1 since 1970 and I just started pumping a couple of weeks ago. I love it! You will find the pump to be a great tool to help you tighten your control. My numbers have never been better and I've lost a few pounds already. Best of luck and welcome to the 'club!' :D

My numbers are a little more steady and a little better with every day. I know what that wait to get the pump is like. It's taken a year since I decided that it was a route I wanted to explore to get from that want to the actual hooking up of the pump. Such is the Ontario Health Care system. But patience is required when you want to get something covered.

I can already see that in three weeks or so, this is going to be golden... Or at least as golden as it gets for a diabetic.

...And bolusing while in like for my morning cuppa is awesome. It really is.

Bode, thats awesome! I am hoping for better control as well. I have always been pretty good with sugars/A1C (we're all human though... lol) but since I had my daughter a year ago I am finding it more difficult. I honestly can not wait to get started.

I have never really heard anything negative about the pump which is awesome (except for insurance hassels etc).

Does changing your site hurt any more then a regular shot?

Not at all! I use the Medtronic Paradigm Revel pump with MIO infusion sets. It's as easy as testing. Go to youtube and watch Dibeticteen. His videos are great! I haven't had any pain with it at all though. Keep in touch ;)
