hi after being diagnosed almost 2 years now, I am finally going to see an Endo for the first time.  I had to make my own appointment. I have listened to many people ugh and heard many different things yes i am old enough to have known better but I trusted my primary care for me bad mistake. Heres my problem, believe it or not I dont know what to expect, I dont know what questions to ask or what an Endo does. I am tired of feeling stupid at my age so I am asking for advise on what to expect, questions and how to know if I made the right decision Any help is appreciated    thanks

Endo's are great when you find the right one I am blessed in the sense that I have a wonderful endo who supports me in everything. You will prob. get an A1C for your endos recording this happens every 3 months most of the time but your diabetes may vary. umm you guys will discuss your care and how it is working for you. see if there are any changes needed. if you have not been recording your bg's then please start because this will help your endo see where changes need to be made. also take your meter with you because it holds a bg history as well. umm tell them any trouble you are having like lows at night or highs at a particular time. maybe questions about exercise or certain foods and how they effect you. An endo is a great diabetes resource but remember to do your own research as well and together you will be your diabetes team.

thanks for the info. The endo i am going to , I found out, is the one that my primary care has been sending his other patients to. Now, I am wondering  why hasnt he sent me to her before. Why , is my health just as important or what. Or am I making another mistake by going to this one. I am just tired of feeling stupid by questions like this, What is my ratio. WHAT is a Ratio should I have known this before? I also just found out there are 8 doctors in the same office as my pcp and only ONE knows about diabetes AND it aint the one I have been seeing for this, so why didnt he send me to someone sooner?  Questions that I want answers to

I understand your concern. As for why your doctor did not send you I can not attest to that but I can say you are going now and that is good. For me for 6 yrs before this endo I didn't go to one my doctor that I fully trust as my pcp took care of it until we ran into issues with it and that is when he decided to send me to the endo. I would not spend too much time trying to figure these things out as I would trying to get everything covered with your endo. For the first appt you might want to write down all the questions you have so you guys can work on getting everything under control together. this way you don't forget anything and you might want to bring a pen to write down any answers they have for you to help you better understand everything. That is what my parents did and what I still do today because with life as busy as it is in the world today youy will have it on paper to remind you later on when you are at home. You will be more prepared and the doctor will know you are taking it seriously as well and really want to learn it all.
