Well I have been an uncontrolled Type 1 my entire life.  We had been off of insurance for a really rough year, and as of Oct 1st, we finally got on decent insurance.

i had a Dr's appt this morning.. because I know I need help and this is a start.

my A1c is 12.8  This breaks my heart.  I knew it would be bad but wow.

Anyone have any tips for better control or words of wisdom?  I am working on getting an Animas Ping, and a CGM.  I have a Deltec Cozmo pump and I have had nothing but problems with it since I got it.

I know how you feel, my last visit with my Endo my A1c was higher than what I had expected.

So the good news is that you have insurance now.

I think you are on the right track looking at a CGMs.  The ability the CGMS gives you to see what your numbers are at night, can make all the difference.

Well I can tell you what steps I am taking to improve my A1c.

1st I am trying to really limit my carb intake at meals to 35 carbs give or take a few.  That way I don't have to adjust my insulin needs as much, and my BGs should be more predictable eating the same amount of carbs.

2nd I am trying to make sure to check my BGs pre and post meals so I can make sure my Carb ratios and correction ratios are correct.

3rd I will make an effort to change my infusion sets on a 3 day basis like I should.

So thats what I am trying to do,  I wish you the best at getting better control.  Take your time, you will get there!

Yes.. I def need to change my infusion sets... and not ignore the alert in the middle of the night that my tubing is  plugged (Did that last night and woke up feeling like hell...)

I did get approved for the CGM, I just need to find $1200 - $1500 for it.. since I have not met my deductable as of yet.  Ah well, when there is a will, there is a way, right? lol

As for carbs yeah, I do tend to watch them closely.. but even on days when I eat little to no carbs.. or anything at all, I still tend to bounce.  I had blood drawn today to check my TSH, so hopefully getting back on track with my Thyroid meds will too make a difference.

I love this site too!  Glad I surfed Youtube blogs and found it :)

I do the carb counting of course I tend to stay below 40 carbs a meal.

I do exercise for 30 to 45 mins A day rather that be taking my doggies out or hitting the gym I make sure it happens!!

I am so horrible about switching sites out every three days as I tend to wait till my sensor goes so when I switch I do both at the same time. I don't think I have major issues arising from that but you never know.

I am trying to pay better atten to my alarms on my pump/CGM so if there is an issue I can take care of it immed. instead of waiting till the last min like I did yesterday. I could not understand why I was high but then I looked at my pump to pull up my cgm graph and my battery was dead on the pump and apperently had been for over 4 hrs so I went for 4 hrs with no insulin all cause I didn't pay atten to the alarms. lesson learned!! after A bg of 446 mg/dl

Yikes!  Yeah, ive ignored the alarms way too many times and wake up feeling like hell.  a HI is nothing to me and i really need to change that.

I did get approved to get the CGM, I just havent met the deductable on my insurance so I have to pay $1300 out of pocket for the starter kit.  Does anyone know of an organization that can help me out?

The $200 for my pump exchange is nothing, but the CGM is a must when it comes to seeing how my body deals with insulin and what not.

Being diagnosed at 1531.. ive been to both extreems and I dont wanna go there again!
