Your doctor doesn't know what you go through? Mine called me irresponsible, she said that I was doing things wrong for the past 5 years of being on the insulin pump. She told me that she has other patients and I wasn't the only one. In no indication did I claim to be her only one. In no way did I say I wasn't I just told her I was surprised that she didn't call me back after a change she made. I had to do everything on my own and when she said that she was like "You have  to take responsibility." and I simply said to her. "I am responsible, I'm the Diabetic, I've been doing this alone for the past 11 years!" That appt. was last week and she had me crying as I left the appt. She said to me. "LOOK I'M JUST TRYING TO HELP IF YOUR GOING TO BE LIKE THIS THEN GO TO SOMEONE ELSE!" at times like that I wished I had a recorder with me to record the appt. just so my mum would see how horrible she talked to me. I got home, made an appt for someone else right away and had my mum call the new doctor's office. Once she called she asked if it was true that they only wanted a copy of the last lab results only and the new doctor's office said no they wanted the whole record because that's my records. I have to pay a 25 dollar fee for transfers and then they will give only the last lab result. How do I see to it that my WHOLE file goes over? I'm 24 and such, but I want to make sure my rights as a human and patient are met.

She's not been my only Endo, I've fired Endos. Another thing is I'd been dealing with so many low blood sugars that she only took me down .10 % of my basal and never called back or anything. She said "See you in two weeks" and that was that.

You have patient rights let me do my research as I know of some organizations who help with this sort of thing you have a right to fire your doctor if you feel you are not getting the right care. so good for you. they can not withhold your medical records. it seems to me they have something to hide but that is just my opinion could be wrong. so give me a day and i will see what i can find k?

I'll be sure to do that. Since moving to another city in the past two years of living here I've had a total of 3 Endocrinologists, this one I've got scheduled for August 31st will be my fourth Endocrinologist. I fired the second one moving out here because he was very rude and didn't do his job. I just know there's things that they're trying to hide because she also works with Thyroid patients and there was this woman who has a 20% chance of Cancer and she was there to get a copy of her file, but she had been going to the doctor for two years, technically a year and when she had informed the office she was needing a copy of everything they told this woman that thy'd put all medical files on the computer and shredded all of her paper work so she was then a new patient.

Mandie,

Sorry to hear about your last few office visits.  You are not alone.  I have gone through many endos, and so have other diabeteics as well.  It's hard to find a good doctor sometimes.

Bill, I just still can't believe I'd be treated like that, or anyone you know? I'm having to shop again for the Endo, and it will have been the fourth! IN TWO YEARS from moving from Houston to Humble..

I'm in California, and here you can request a copy of any of your medical records.  There is typically a fee for a whole file.  I am not sure if it is a federal right or state right, though.  It is standard to have to pay to copy a whole file.

Sounds like you are pretty frustrated with the endos.  I have not had good luck with Endo's here in Sacramento, so I don't see one anymore.  I see a primary care physician.  He is much better for me.

I read the book Think LIke a Pancreas and Using Insulin, and those taught me much more than my endo knows, I think.  If you haven't read them, you should read "Think Like a Pancreas" and "Pumping Insulin."  Those will help you get the skills you need, and the Endo can just be an extra set of eyes, or to ask questions.  You cannot depend too much on any doctor, though.  You have to do the thinking, unfortunately.

I agree with Baby Tee, those books are amazing.  I have met both of the authors of those books.  They know what they are talking about and personally live with diabetes.

I will be sure to look into it. I just want to be on the same page. I know I have to do the work all the time, but it's almost like "what's the point." at times when you know you've done the best you can and then to be told your not doing well?

It took me a while and going thru a lot of endos until I found one that was good. It does take time sometimes. Hope you find one what works well with you.
