So well I am A medic and firefighter and work 24 hr shifts right? I love my job it is great except when diabetes gets in the way and today was that day!! so work we were droping off a patient at the hospital and the doctors and I know each other well my dad works at that hospital as an ER doc so I know all the staff well apperentlly I didn't look right so the doc asked me to check my sugar I said I was fine I mean I had my sensor in and didn't get any warnings so I look at my pump it is minimed so the CGMS is all in one great stuff! anyways it read sensor lost! sensor lost!!! ugh!! really?? so my partner looks at my arm and sees the adhesive came lose and the sensor was out!! uggh again!!! so I check my sugar and it was a sad number not even readable by my meter it came up LOW. UGGH!!! so the doc made me become the patient. after a few bouts of eat 15 carbs and then waiting still not working so they start the IV and give D50 just great!! don't I look incompentant I mean really I am a medic and I take care of people all day long and failed to take care of my self!! so bad day yes will this keep me down heck no!! lucky me doc caught it before things got really ugly. ohh the blood was drawn to get a glucose number and it came back at a all time low of 24. sometimes I get mad that my whole days are dependent on a number on a meter.

Lesson I learned today do not just rely on technology it is great but always double check.

and 2 remember to suspend the pump after going low!!

Okay I feel better now

Great advice.  With a busy job like yours it must be such a challenge to manage your ever changing schedule.  Not to mention the ups and downs you go through in you line of work.

CGMS is a great tool.  I am not positive however on my Dexcom's ability to catch lows before I do.  It really doesn't.  That's just another reason for me to check frequently on a meter as well to get an accurate number.

Yeah my job and I well we have our good days and bad days of course but I love it and take care of my self so I can do it I mean there is nothing like saving a life or putting out a fire!

My CGMS like yours is great for me in terms of trends and how different things effect my sugar but not for on the min news of a blood sugar reading so I always have to take that into account. so normally I use my meter about 8 to 10 times a shift and this shift I was slacking. but all is back to normal new sensor infusion set and resovior and no more work till friday got to love the 24 hr on 48 hr off shift!!
