Do you get diabetic gifts wrapped up for the Holidays or give them? I celebrate Christmas and each year my Dad still wraps Juicy Juice and peanut butter crakers for me under the tree. "Smiles"
I am sure in the past I had my syringes wrapped up with my alcohol swabs too! LOL
Do any of you get Diabetes related gifts for the Holidays or Birthdays? | |

I would probably get so mad at my family if they gave me diabetes gifts for Christmas! It is the last thing I want to think about on the holidays...
However, I do have issues with friends of ours asking my hubby if it is ok to give me candy for Christmas!!!!! Uggggh....so irritating! These people have never asked me about diabetes, never brought up the topic (they only know because it is fairly common knowledge at my husband's ship, due to issues when I was pregnant), and they go out to eat with us all the time and know I can eat what I want! Why would they even ask this?
I don't expect people to know everything about Type 1, but it would be nice if they would just ask me, or assume that I am a big girl and can handle being thoughtful and thankful when receiving a gift, even if it was something I shouldn't have (which is not even the case!).

We'll see lol. This is my first diabetic Christmas so I don't really know. Ooh! Actually I did ask for a skin for my pump so I imagine that I might get a diabetes-related gift.

I have never received a diabetes related gift, but it sounds kind of fun!
when I was younger I didnt want to be singled out, but now that I've been through so much, it would actually be kind of nice to be recognized for my life- and that I'm still here to live it.

I got a diabetes cookbook once. I smiled politely and took it but I wanted to scream. It was given with good intentions, but as a type 1 I don't feel I need special food or fake sugars - just care with timing / portions.
I never used the cookbook but I did pass it on to someone who actually wanted it
I could never appreciate a diabetes related gift - unless someone gave me a CGMS or pump!! but sugar free food, cookbooks, etc - no thanks. But I'll be polite about it because at least they thought about me and tried.

I have actually asked for a few things that are Diabetic related. I asked for a medic alert necklace or medical USB stick and a CGMS I think thats what they are called, they help stop a lot of the sticking on checking your glucose. But as far as a cookbook or sugar free candy and stuff...I get that stuff everyday so no I would not think that would be wanted to much.

I will be nice to get a diabetic related gift, like a book. Do any of you know of Cartoon Book about Diabetes. (might be a good project to start for next year) We all do a drawing and send it here.

@fred cross
I have found a few sites that offer you the option to order different styles and gives a lot of choices. I think most are reasonable but there is 1 or 2 that are pricey. I hope this helps.....
They are in no special order just how there were opened in my browser. If you don't find what you are looking for here or in the price you want let me know and I will look some more.

I just found out about being a diabetic in September, so have never had a Christmas or birthday present as a diabetic. I have a secret sister who - unknowingly - gave me a beautiful chocolate pumpkin shaped cake for Halloween. I passed it on to my daughter and her family. ![]()

I received a few sugarless candy items in past years. I think the thought is sweet, but I try to hint any chance I get that I'd rather eat less of the real thing and pump in some insulin than eat the fake stuff. So those gifts are less frequent these days.
Some friends have bought me diabetic cookbooks. They know I like to cook. They know I have diabetes. They're just trying to get something personal. I usually thank them, then donate the book to charity. I'm sure there are people out there who would like something like that, but it's not for me.
This year is the first year I'm asking for something diabetic related (for my birthday and/or christmas) I asked for the tummietote, it's a band for around your waist with pockets in it to hold the pump and other small items. I have one, it's really convenient for sports so I'm asking for another. Pump skins are a good idea too.
