So this was my first Thanksgiving as a T1D and I have to say it was AWESOME!!! Yeah I had to turn down that extra piece of pie but hey thats less hours in the gym, right!?!?!! My numbers were in range for most of the day.I just had one spike which was corrected and in normal range within a few hours!!! I was sooo excited!! So I was reflecting on what thanksgiving means and I realized that I'm greatful for many things but most of all  I am thankful for this site!! I can come here and be encouraged, get good advice, and watch some sweet videos!!  Thank you for allowing me to express myself on those good days and bad!!

Hey! This was my first type one thanksgiving too! I was diagnosed April 8th so like the day after u got out of the hospital it was Easter and we had a turkey lunch and... I got a 330 at dinner oops! Thanksgiving, on the other hand, was great! I had a low in the morning but that had nothing to do with the meal and at lunch and I got a 100 even at dinner. It was great! And i'm also thankful for this site! Ps: I took 13 units at lunch for 200 carbs ;)

That is why I am grateful for my blood sugar meter.  When I was diagnosed in 1984, I only had the strips where you matched the color to the back of the bottle, and tried to figure out where it was between, say 80 and 120.  It took me like 4 or 5 months to get my glucometer 2, and it cost my parents over $1000.

Good for you guys.  That is what I do.  A few times a year, I let loose, and check my bloodsugar like crazy for the next 6 or 8 hours.

Congrats you guys on having a great Thanksgiving... it's funny how Thanksgiving is like this Diabetic challenge we go through every year.

This year my Diabetic radar was up!  I tried to eat better and bolus right.  Hoping to not run into highs later on.  So I finish up eating and test my BG afterwards and I am 271!!!  I had no idea why it was so high, I didn't even eat a ton.  Oh well I thought, it's Thankgiving and that fact alone must have done it.   So I bolused.  Checked a few hours after and I was 300!

I wasn't happy but I blamed that 300 BG on coffee and some deserts.  Not thinking that I really didn't eat enough for that reading, but I was carb guessing for those treats.  So I do more insulin to get my 300 down and think nothing of it really.  So Finally check my BG again before heading to bed and it was STILL HIGH!!!

Come to find out I had a Blocked infusion set and I wasn't getting any insulin for hours!!!  Arugh!  I hate that.  I changed my set and everything was fine.  What really stinks is that I know my BG numbers would have been good if not for that blocked infusion set.  Those are the diabetic setbacks that upset me.  The ones where you plan everything right, do the right amount of insulin.... and something like that gets you!

I thought I would share that story.  I know you guys did such a good job this year on Thanksgiving and I am soooo jealious.  Congrats.  I will battle again next year for Thanksgiving and hopefully come out on top!

Thanks for all the kind words about this site and the vidoes we do.  I am so happy we all have a place to talk and even laugh a bit!

I am so glad the site has been helpful to you guys!  You guys kicked butt this holiday for sure!  Connecting with others really helps make managing the D so much easier, at least it does for me.

This was my second Thanksgiving using carb counting and I did much better than last year!  My highest reading was 151 and I am thankful not only to my blood glucose meter but to my pump and dexcom for helping me out this year.  Thank goodness for combo bolusing, LOL!

Hey guys :) We don't have the same holidays here in New Zealand - I wonder if someone can tell me what Black Friday is? I've seen it in a few places and it's making me curious! To me a black friday is another name for any Friday the 13th, but it's not even a commonly used term.

I understand where you're all coming from though - we don't do a thanksgiving dinner but of course I experience the same for Christmas dinner, birthday meals, etc. It's always a tough time to keep things in check!  For the first couple of years that I was on insulin I took the cautious route, I had small healthy meals and avoided the naughtier foods - then I felt like I was missing out and decided to make my diabetes work around the day instead of the other way around. In all honesty, it's actually easier the first way - but then I had to deal with other people feeling sorry for me because I didn't eat dessert (at the time it was no problem for me, though!).

This Christmas I'm hoping to find a balance - I'll eat what I want but maybe in small careful doses, because the day is SO much easier if my BGs are under control and to me that's the most important part - I can't relax otherwise because I have trouble with getting grumpy / sleepy, not wanting to drive anywhere (and I have to drive all over the place on Christmas day), and feeling generally gross about it all.
