Yikes!  Since I got my CGMS hooked up, I've been awakened every night by the alarm with low BG.  This must have been going on for some time without me even knowing it.  Besides adjusting my insulin, what is a good snack to eat when I am on the edge of a low in the middle of the night, something that won't make my BG soar way up?  It seems when I eat something in the middle of the night to combat a low, my blood sugar level doesn't come back down, even if it is something as small as a VERY small glass of watered down orange juice.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Something that works for me:  Grandma's mini cream sandwich cookies.  Each cookie has 2.5 g carbs, so I will usually have between 1 and 4 in the middle of the night.  You have to rebrush your teeth, though. :)

Baby Tee, are the cookies something that you can get at any grocery store?  I haven't heard of them before since I don't usually buy cookies.  Thanks for the advice.

Mark are you using a pump as well?

Yes, I have both the pump and the CGMS, from Medtronics.  Since I started with the CGMS, every night the Low BG alarm has gone off, alerting me to a low.  I have been having nightly lows without knowing it!

I was asking if you were on a pump if you didn't think about adjusting your basal patterns?

I've been working with my basal patterns and finally think I got it figured out to keep from going into the low BG.  It is quite complicated as I work out on some days, other days are high stress with my job, some are low key.  Each day calls for a different pattern, based on my schedule and activity.  I've actually made it through two days now without the low BG alarm going off!  :-)

If anyone is interested, I recently discovered the tiny cans of V-8 that have only 7 grams of carbs.  I've found that if my BG is starting to head south and I know I need just a little something to boost it back up, the V-8 drink is a great option.  It doesn't boost the BG, at least not for me.

Great healthy idea.  Glad to hear you didn't have any lows for a few days.  Those basal patterns are ever changing.  I think mind need some adjustment with the winter season coming soon.

Sorry, I think I misread your initial post question.  Not sure if you can get them in most stores.  Some of those 100 calorie packs have small amounts of carbs in one cookie, for instance.  That V8 you mentioned is a great idea.  Thanks for sharing.  I am not on the pump (yet), but I have the same trouble with my sugars getting too low when I sleep, sometimes.  I am not sure how to combat it.

It's a continual process to keep the BG under control, let me tell you.  I had Thai food for supper, mostly vegetables, some chicken, with just a small amount of steamed rice.  Here it is four hours later, and my BG is slowly coming back down to where it should be after several additional boluses.  Tonight will probably be one of those nights where the BG will dip too low, probably about 2:00 a.m.
