In your personal experience. How long does it typically take for your correction bolus or injection work for a 250+ BG. Or how long is it suppose to take for it to work? When should it or do you get back to a normal range?? Just curious....

Good question. When I have a BG over 200 and especially over 250 I know a few things. My body become more insulin resistant the higher it gets and the BG correction might be a mystery. A mystery I say because if my BG is 150 I know that my correction ratio is going to work fine and get me to my target range.
So when it is high, some people (like me) add more to the correction to get it down. Over 250 I increase my correction by 12%. To get back in range if this was the right amount will take me 3 or so hours. Sometimes I have to correct again, so that adds some time too.

I tend to get really resistant over 250 so I usually take 10% more than the pump suggests. That usually gets me back into target within 3 hours unless there is an underlying cause I am not aware of like an infection or fever coming on. Knock on wood that doesn't happen often but if it does it will take me 2 to 3 more "super corrections" as I call them to get back into range.

I have noticed more recently that I am super resistant over 250, but haven't figured out a good formular yet. No when you say you give x% more do you mean you calculate how much % more you need in your head or on a calculator or does your pumps have options to give x% more of a correction? I'm confused a little.

Well, I use (cough) the Cozmo pump and you can actually put the increased % into the pump for any glucose range. But because you can't do that, A way to get that would be to see what your pump recommends for a bolus and then add the percentage after that. For example if it suggests you do 1.00units, then I would bump it up to 1.12 units for a 12% increase. I know it took the easy math way out. :-)

Good question. I am going to stick it out with the Cozmo until they aren't going to have the supplies for it anymore, or before my 4 years is up. I have about 2 years left or so.
Hopefully by then there might be some improvements with the Dexcom talking to the Animas or Omnipod. If I was going to choose now, I would go with the Animas Ping. I feel comfortable with the way it calculates Insulin on Board and covers for meal boluses.
I like the pod technology but I have been used to my pumps calculating for meal boluses and wouldn't want to learn the hard way so to speak (bad Low)
So I am crossing my fingers for some new stuff in 2 years. I was also hoping that some other pump company would purchase some of the patents from the CoZmo pump, but I don't think that will happen for another 3 years at least.

It does give you a small reminder of iob before while bolusing....

You still need to figure it out yourself though...

Just curious, doo you feel that there us a problem with the way the OmniPod calculates meal boluses? If so what is it. I have tried every pump out there and I believe the OmniPod has by far the most user frendly and intutitive User Interface out there. And now that they have the new PDM with color display, great download caoability and a light to illuminate test strips if you need it I think you find the OmniPod gives you all you need. I would certainly never go back. Andy

I am really insulin resistant at that level. It can take me up to six hours to come down. This is doing two corrections over that time (out of my system in about three hours). I have had a few of those mainly due to pizza. I do better now with pizza, but I still am high 4 to six hour later (under 190 but more than 160)

I do the math myself as my pump doesn't do that.
