Ever have a day when it seems that none of your diabetes technology works quite right? Error codes on equipment? It seems the more we depend on technology to manage our diabetes, the more chance we have of a technological failure. To get us started, here is a technology fail I experienced a couple of months ago....I woke up and my DexCom sensor was failing so I replaced the sensor. I went out to lunch to meet a friend while I waited on my sensor to come online. We are at Red Lobster and the waitress brings us cheesy, yummy biscuits, so I grab my glucometer out of my bag to test and to bolus for lunch. My Ping meter just keeps giving me a message of Error 6 and won't let me test. So I have to guess what my BGs are and bolus for lunch since I have no backup meter in my purse. Then my DexCom starts beeping at me to put in my start up BG so it can start working. Well duhhh, my meter is broken and I can't test! So I finish lunch and head home to call tech support and find another meter to use. I calibrate the DexCom so now it is working and I am using a backup meter. It was a technology fail day for sure and frustrating, but I kind of laughed at the silliness of it all. Gotta laugh so you don't cry sometimes

I wish the meters would tell you what the error is. I mean who carries their error code guide book with them. (if you do that's cool too... lol)
What meter were you able to use to Calibrate with? Are you using the new Dexcom or old?
PS. What did you eat at lunch, I am food nosey like that if you couldn't tell by talking to me.

I used my One Touch Ultra Smart since the One Touch Ping was not cooperating. Then I manually put in the BGs into the DexCom 7 Plus. So I have the new Dex I had grilled salmon, mashed potatoes, brocolli and 1 cheesy biscuit. It was tasty!

I got an error on my Ping too the other day so I need to call the company to get a new meter I don't want it to completely fail on me, plus I use a backup meter I actually have three meters two freestyle lite's and the ping, I never use the ping to test because I love my freestyle too much.

Hmm well i don't have that many instances of technology fails since i use injections at the moment. But when I was in the hospital when i was first starting on insulin, the meter registered a false low. At that point I had never gotten a low blood sugar before so I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. But I remembered thinking "wow this is what it feels like to have a low? I feel completely normal"... but they checked it later and it was super high so they figured out that it was a false read. So needless to say I got a few days added onto my hospital stay because I had to have a constant day of stability before discharge. shoot.:)
